Vilnius apartment or a Nida night: who is sharing Lithuania?

Start with the spit night, not the wine list. Vilnius apartments sell as wholes and the baroque core is easy to like on your own. The Curonian Spit only stays on the week if someone else already wants a pillow in Nida or Juodkrantė.

Lithuania talks Lithuanian first. English is common in Vilnius. Polish and Russian still turn up. The euro is the bill. Trains under LTG Link are comfortable enough that Kaunas can be a real stop instead of a blur out the window. The useful travel companion here is the person who already said Nida, not the person who only likes old towns.

What is Lithuania like when you share Vilnius and the spit?

Vilnius is green and walkable. Apartments sell as wholes. A leftover single either overpays a family flat or lands in a different hostel. The Curonian Spit only feels kind if someone else is already sharing the Nida or Juodkrantė night. That close finishes a Baltic trio. Skip it and you photograph dunes from the Klaipėda port wall, then call it a beach day.

Which city or hub should you name first?

Name Vilnius if you fly there and the baroque core is night one. Name Klaipėda if the Curonian Spit is the point and you want the port as a hinge. Name Kaunas if the modernist streets and a slower cafe day are the middle of the week.

Šiauliai is a day from Vilnius or a stop on a north road. If you write Hill of Crosses as the whole trip, you will be done by lunch.

Put the first night and the spit night in the same sentence. That is how the Baltic trio actually closes, instead of dying as three unconnected old towns.

When is the old town enough, and when do you need Nida?

May to September is the shared season. June to August make the spit a swim, not a windbreaker photo. May and September keep Vilnius terraces open and the dunes quieter.

Winter is a Vilnius city break. Leave the dune promise off that trip.

Five to eight nights if the spit is real. Three nights is Vilnius only. Say which week you actually have.

What do you actually split on LTG Link?

• A Vilnius apartment in the old town or Užupis
• Two LTG Link or Kautra seats toward Kaunas or Klaipėda
• The Curonian Spit room plus the local bus or ferry
• A Trakai day if you want kibinai and the castle lake

Intercity buses (Kautra, Toks) fill the gaps the train does not. They are frequent. Buy the same departure. If you split those four lines you do not need a hire car unless you insist on remote spit beaches.

Užupis is a cute first-night base. It is not the spit. If one of you only wants courtyard wine and the other wants a dune sunrise, write both nights or pick a different match. Pink šaltibarščiai in summer is a shared bowl, not a personality test. Still mention it if one of you will not eat beet soup.

What should you write so the spit is a real night?

Write "Nida night" or "Juodkrantė night," not "maybe the coast." Say whether you will ferry from Klaipėda and stay, or try to day-trip from the port and turn around tired. A day-trip is possible. It is also how people see a dune and sit in traffic.
