Why do destination and dates beat a photo stack?
Most travel-social apps show you a pretty grid and hope the itinerary shows up later. A travel companion app that is honest puts the trip first. Japan in April. Georgia in September. Coffee on Saturday in the city you're already in.
That is kinder. You can be warm without being for sale. You can want a women-only trek without calling it a romance filter. You can split a desert camp because the jeep is priced per car. Interests still matter. Hiking and nightlife are not the same week. They just sit after where and when.
Travel companion app vs a giant group chat
Most "looking for a travel companion" advice is: join a huge Facebook or Telegram group, post your dates, hope a human answers before your message drowns in visa questions and hostel ads. Groups can be useful. They are also noisy, easy to spam, and hard to moderate when someone turns a meet-up into a sales pitch.
A Mini App is a different shape. Profiles are real enough to read. Trips have a start and an end. Women-only is a trip type, not a pinned plea. Report hits a user, a post, a trip, or a hangout. Block sits on direct chat. You can still use groups. You should not have to rely on them as the only method.
Informal groups also leak. A public "F 28 looking for Bali buddy" post is a different risk than a women-only trip inside an app that can ban the other person. Neither is magic. One of them has a safety page that tells you not to send money.
How do you actually match?
Open the Mini App from Telegram. There is no second account. Set a country and a date window. Add interests if you want the week to mean something after the airport. You will see people heading the same way, trips you can join, and hangouts if you only want a few hours in the same city.
Create a trip when you want a container: title, dates, optional private flag, women-only or mixed, then a group chat. New accounts can join. Creating a trip or hangout needs a higher tier. Join someone else's trip when the container already exists. Hangouts are the short, local version. Coffee. A museum. A walk. Not a two-week commitment. A hangout stores a meet pin. People themselves stay city-level.
Links from this website can open the Mini App already pointed at a country (for example country_JP on the Japan page). Search inside the app still covers every country, including places we have not written a long guide for yet.
What do you actually split?
The useful looking-for-a-travel-companion conversations are boring in the best way. Who books the sleeper. Who is on the jeep. Whether the apartment is two beds or a sofa. What time the first train is. A companion who will argue about that in writing is worth more than a companion who only sends sunset photos.
Country pages on this site exist to name those splits in place, not to decorate a map. In Japan you split a ryokan and a JR pace. In Morocco you split a desert 4x4 that already prices per car. In Georgia you split a marshrutka and a guesthouse. Read the destinations hub, then the country you are actually flying to. The how-to sits on how to find travel friends.
Keep bookings in your own name until you trust the person. Agree money in the trip chat so both of you can scroll back. If someone wants a wire "to hold the room," that is not a travel companion. That is the safety page doing its job.
Want a women-only trip?
Solo women are a big part of companion demand, and they are right to be picky. TravelBFF lets women create and join women-only trips and hangouts. That is the product answer. A scoped trip, not a hope that the mixed group will behave. Gender is self-declared. We do not pretend it is a government ID check. If someone lies to get into a women-only room, report them. First meets still belong in public.
Do not buy the phrase "female travel companions" as if it were this product. That search bleeds into paid-hire ads. Use women-only trip if that is the toggle you want.
Already in town? That is a hangout
Not every travel companion is a two-week partner. Sometimes you landed, the hostel is loud, and you want a coffee with someone who also wants a coffee. Hangouts are that. A short, local meet. A map pin for the cafe. Listing life of 6, 12, or 24 hours. Still with report. Still with an optional women-only flag. People in the nearby list stay city only. The page for that door is telegram friend finder.
Treat a hangout like a first meet, because it is one. Public place. Tell a friend. Leave if the story slides. A good hangout can become a day trip. It should not become an unplanned overnight because someone is persuasive.
Nomads, backpackers, one-city weekenders
Same mechanic. Three tempos. A digital nomad wants a month in Lisbon or Tbilisi and a person who will actually leave the coworking cafe. A backpacker wants a week of shared buses and a second lock on the bag. A weekender wants one city, two beds, Saturday night, not Wednesday logistics. All three can use destination plus dates. All three get worse results if the app pretends they are looking for a swipe first.
Say the tempo in the trip title. "Two weeks, slow, museums" is a kinder filter than hoping they infer it from a beach photo. A travel companion app trip that hides the pace is how people resent each other by day three. The Mini App cannot fix that. Honest copy can.
Couples looking for another couple should say so. Friends who already have a third seat on a rental car should say so. Surprise extras at the station are how these stories go bad even when nobody is a scammer. The other person planned for one human, not a committee.
What good companion chat sounds like
Good chat is specific. Which week. Which neighbourhood. Which budget band in the local currency. Which thing you will not do (no motorbike, no 4 a.m. buses, no shared double bed). A person who answers those without theatrics is already ahead of a charming person who answers none of them.
Bad chat is speed plus fog. Immediate compliments, no dates, a request to leave the Mini App, a sudden emergency that only your wallet can solve. That pattern is older than Telegram. It just learned a new doorway. The safety page lists it in shorter sentences.
The extras (planner, posts, Premium)
Higher tiers (Donor, Premium) add things like more nearby results, more profile photos, and the AI travel planner. Those are perks. They are not the reason to open the Mini App. The reason is destination plus dates. We do not publish a price list here. Opening the Mini App is free. The nearby list is capped by tier.
Posts and local tips are leftover hostel-book energy: what the last person learned about a neighbourhood. Read them as travellers, not as official advice. Visas, closures, and "is this road open" belong to official sources, not a stranger's caption.
This is still a stranger. Act like it
Meeting a travel companion the Mini App found for you is still meeting a stranger. The app gives you structure. It does not give you a bodyguard. Do not send money. Do not share a login code. Do not get in a private car to "see the view" on hour one. Prefer women-only when that is what you need. Prefer daylight. Prefer a second public stop.
Reddit and advice columns treat "move to Telegram" as a scam signal. They are talking about leaving Tinder for a personal chat. A branded Mini App with a public about page, legal pages, and a report button is a different thing. It is still Telegram. Read safety as if the person is charming. Charming is how the bad cases start.
Country pages if you already have a ticket
These guides are live. They are companion pages. Use them when they match your ticket.
- Japan: cherry blossom versus autumn, JR pacing, ryokan maths.
- Thailand: Bangkok food, Chiang Mai, islands, a known pair instead of a full-moon stranger.
- Italy: rail cities, Amalfi apartments, a second person on the wine day.
- Indonesia: Bali as a meetup hub, boats and cash beyond the south coast.
- Georgia: the country, not the US state. Tbilisi, wine, Kazbegi.
- Morocco: medinas, Atlas days, desert camps that quote per jeep.
The Mini App still searches everywhere else. We write a country page when it has something of its own to say.
Money, pace, and how you leave
Write a daily budget band before you travel. "Cheap" means different things in Tokyo and in Tbilisi. A travel companion who booked tasting menus while you booked bakery breakfasts will be miserable, and so will you. The Mini App will not mediate that. The trip chat will, if you put the numbers in it.
Write the pace. Museum mornings and 4 a.m. taxis do not share a week well. A match is allowed to want a quiet trip. You are allowed to want a loud one. You are not allowed to surprise each other on day one.
Write the exit. Either of you can split the itinerary after a city. Put that in the first messages so it is not a fight later. A plan that cannot survive a polite "I will do the next bit alone" is too fragile to fly with.
How to start this week
Install Telegram if you somehow do not have it. Open @travelbffbot. Complete enough profile that a human would sit next to you on a bus. Set one real destination and one real window. Message like a planner, not like a pickup line. Suggest a public first meet if you are already in the same city. If you are not, suggest a video hello and a written split.
Then decide. A travel companion you would not introduce to a friend is not a companion. Walk. There will be another trip. The homepage is the short version of this page. Contact is how you report. Privacy and terms are the legal floor.
Questions people actually ask
Is a travel companion the same as a tour?
No. You still book your own transport. You share some of the hours. If you want a paid guide, hire a guide.
Can I use this if I am not solo?
Yes. Couples and friends look for a third seat or another pair all the time. Say that in the trip. Do not surprise someone with extra people at the station.
What if I only want one day?
Use a hangout, or a trip with honest dates. Do not list a two-week window if you mean Saturday.
Is TravelBFF a dating app?
No. People type that. The Mini App has no dating mode. You match on a trip or a city. If that search is why you are here, read the telegram dating app landing.
Do I need Premium to match?
No. You can join a trip and request chat without paying. The nearby list is capped. Creating a trip or hangout needs a higher tier. Premium is extra nearby, extra photos, and the planner.
