RN7 or Andasibe: who already sat the taxi-brousse?

You land in Antananarivo with a Madagascar ticket and a week that looks huge on the map. It is not. The kind question is whether you are sitting the RN7 south, or walking Andasibe at night near the capital. Lemurs and baobabs are real. They are not a route.

Taxi-brousse benches leave full. Park guides quote for two. The days get gentler when the other person already bought the same sit. On the street the languages are Malagasy and French, the money is ariary, and the roads eat the calendar. You land in the highland capital. The next name depends on which park you can actually stand to reach.

The travel companion you want already chose that sit with you: highland road days, Andasibe nights, or a Tsingy circuit. All three on one impatient ticket is how Tsingy becomes a photograph you never walk.

The RN7 is a sit, not a hop

The RN7 is the spine most people mean. It runs south from the highlands toward Fianarantsoa and on to Toliara. You do not hop. You sit. Taxi-brousse minibuses are cheap, crowded, and slow. Tsaradia domestic flights save whole days and then cancel. Split the bench, the park guide, and the highland room and you can finish a park. A leftover single usually joins a random car or skips the limestone. April to November keeps the dirt more usable. Say the number of road days early, so a beach bag does not end up on a highland bench. A week is Antananarivo plus Andasibe. Two weeks is the honest RN7 plus one more park family. Andasibe is the near-capital forest many people can actually reach. Tsingy is a different landscape and a different transfer. They are not the same Saturday.

Eat romazava when a house table appears, ravitoto if you want the cassava-leaf pork, zebu steak in the highlands, mofo gasy in the morning, and koba wrapped in banana leaf from a stall. Share the thermos. Long road days run on that, not on a restaurant plan.

Why park days want a second name

Andasibe night walks and Tsingy circuits want a guide and a driver or a taxi you already split. Going alone usually means joining a random car or skipping the limestone.

Those four lines turn a pretty island into a week you can actually sit through. Pick one park family first: east forest, south road, west limestone, or north bay. Mixing all of them is how people buy two flights and see a zoo.

When the dirt is actually usable

April to November is the dry window, even when some month lists start in May. April can still be green. May to October is the most reliable for roads. November is the tail.

Cyclone-season beaches are a different week. A January sea person and a Tsingy walker will argue about shoes before they leave Antananarivo.

Two weeks is the minimum honest RN7 plus one park. A week is Antananarivo plus Andasibe. Say the shorter one if that is all you have.

Which hub should you name first?

Name Antananarivo if you land there and need a highland night before any road. Name Fianarantsoa if the RN7 is already moving. Name Toliara if the southwest beaches are the end point. Name Antsiranana only if the north is the whole trip.

Fianarantsoa is the hilly cultural stop and the door toward Ranomafana if that forest is on the list. Toliara is the dusty southwest gate for Ifaty and Anakao beaches after the road finally ends. Mahajanga is a different coast, flowers and a huge baobab, useful only if the northwest is the week. Antsiranana (Diego Suarez) is the far north: bays, Tsingy Rouge, a French-looking port. Four hubs on one ticket is how the week becomes airports.

Andasibe is a park, not a city hub. Tsingy is a landscape with more than one reserve. Put the reserve name in the trip so the bag has boots or reef shoes, not both by accident.

What should you check before the first bench

You are buying time. Taxi-brousse days can erase a park you thought was on the way. Domestic flights cost more and slip. A buffer day after each long transfer is how you still like Fianarantsoa. A resort week packed into a minibus is how you argue in the aisle.

Confirm current entry rules the week you book. Health and night-road advice belong on official pages, not in a match bio. If one of you will not sit eight hours on a bench, say "flight budget" in the trip. If both of you will, say "no Tsaradia." That single line saves a week of quiet resentment.

Mahajanga only belongs in the title if the northwest coast is the week, not as flavor on an RN7 sit.

If the bench already has a date

Once the taxi-brousse toward Fianarantsoa is printed, open TravelBFF in Telegram.
