Fouta Djallon is the walk: highland paths, waterfall days, and a cool night in Labé or Kindia. Conakry is the door. It is not the hike. The highlands rise behind the humid capital. Waterfalls, laterite, and market towns are the map. French is official. Pular, Maninka, and Susu take over once the road leaves the airport. Gueckedou and N'Zérékoré sit in Forest Guinea, nearer Sierra Leone and Liberia, and they are a different trip if the forest is real. Say Fouta early, plus the walking days, plus whether you will sit a sept-place or hire a car. A listing that only says Guinea and then a coast you have not booked tends to produce a Conakry night and a quiet argument.

When are Fouta trails actually usable?

November to April is the dry window. That is when highland paths and sept-place hours are less of a mud lottery. Rain turns the same laterite into a guess, which is why two people should lock the same departure morning before they lock the waterfall name.

Ten days is Conakry plus a Fouta base. The forest is another ticket.

Kindia, Labé, or the forest towns first?

Name Kindia if you are coming straight from the capital and want the first cool night. Name Labé if the walks are the week. Name Gueckedou or N'Zérékoré only if Forest Guinea and the Nimba side are actually booked.
