Zakouma or Ennedi: is anyone running Chad this season? travel photo

Zakouma and Ennedi keep turning up in photographs, and that is how people start planning a desert they cannot actually enter. Wildlife camps and sandstone only become a week when an operator will still put a departure, a 4x4, and a permit path on paper this season. If nobody will write that down, you do not have Chad. You have a capital you should not improvise from.

Read the US travel advisory for Chad and UK foreign travel advice the day you write the trip. Check entry rules for your passport. This page cannot certify a visa. Ask whether travel outside the capital still needs an Autorisation de Circuler, the circulation permit the usual transport note mentions. Ask whether the operator assigned a reliable 4x4 and a driver. Most roads are unpaved. A rental-desk plan is not a plan.

French and Arabic are the working languages. The currency is the Central African CFA franc. Capitaine from the river, boule, daraba, jarret de boeuf, and karkandji are the plates people name. A grilled perch does not issue a travel permit.

The only travel companion worth finding here is someone who will treat that operator file as the week, and walk away if the operator goes quiet.

What if the parks are not running this year?

Then you compare notes, not trailheads. Two people can agree the country is not a trip this year. That is a kind outcome. It is kinder than sitting in N'Djamena hoping a circuit appears.

If one of you is already in the capital for work, say that. A work stay and a park circuit are different listings. The work person should not become an unpaid fixer for a tourist who has no permit. Capitaine on the river and a market walk in N'Djamena are lunch, not a substitute circuit. If Zakouma and Ennedi are closed to you this season, a research chat is honest. A consolation tour of Sarh and Moundou is not.

Are Zakouma or Ennedi actually operating this season?

That is still the first question. Zakouma is the wildlife recovery story people still repeat. Ennedi is the sandstone massif people still put on a map. Neither one is a self-drive you invent from a blog. Both depend on an operator who will say, this season, that the camp, the vehicle, and the permit path are real.

Ask for the operator name. Ask for the departure month. Ask whether the quote is per vehicle. If those answers are missing, the listing is a hope.

November through February is the historical cooler, drier window. That is weather. Season here still means check advisories first, then ask the operator. If the operator will not put the departure in writing, you do not have Zakouma or Ennedi. You have a photograph. Another person does not replace that writing.

What are you matching when an operator is real?

You are matching an operator name, a departure month, and a permit path, not a Sahara photograph. N'Djamena sits at the Chari and Logone confluence. It is dusty, busy, and a gateway language, not a sightseeing week. Sarh is a southern river city on the Chari. Moundou is the southern industrial town on the Logone, cotton and brewing, markets. Those names are geography. They are not a loop. Name N'Djamena if you are landing and waiting on a permit or an operator confirmation. Name Sarh or Moundou only if the operator file already includes them.

A shared 4x4 is how a brutal solo quote becomes possible. It does not make an unauthorized road legal. If the split you want is a shared taxi toward the desert without the permit, that is not a week to post. Say the operator name and the date they confirmed. Say you will cancel if they drop the departure. Say whether you speak enough French or Arabic for a checkpoint.

What you need first Why it comes first What fails without it
Current government advice Access changes A listing you cannot legally take
Operator name and month Parks are not walk-up A capital you should not improvise from
Autorisation de Circuler Travel outside the capital often needs it A road that is not yours to drive
4x4 plus assigned driver Roads are mostly unpaved A rental-desk hope

What do two people split on a real operator circuit?

  • The 4x4 and driver, almost always quoted per vehicle
  • Twin camp or room nights the operator actually holds
  • Permit paperwork and CFA cash handling
  • The flight or long transfer into the start town

Sahara is how people paste a Niger or Sudan week onto a country they have not checked. If the other person wants a capital-only food week, that is a different listing, and it still needs the same advisory.

If the operator named the month

If Zakouma or Ennedi is already on a quote, open TravelBFF in Telegram and write the operator and that month into the trip. It is a Telegram Mini App on country_TD. Stay in the chat until you have both read the same advisory and the same per-vehicle number. If you are both waiting in N'Djamena on the Autorisation de Circuler, meet at the hotel or the office already holding those papers, not on a dusty afternoon you treat as a sightseeing day. Keep bookings in your own name.

If you are only researching, say so. Comparing operator notes is cleaner than pretending the massif is already booked.

The destination hub is the right index if no operator is running. Neighboring access questions sit in the Cameroon companion notes, the Niger notes, and the Sudan access notes. Matching steps are on how TravelBFF works.

On the profile, say French or Arabic if you have them, how you handle a long 4x4 day, and the operator month that is already confirmed. That is enough for someone to know whether they are splitting Zakouma camp nights or still only comparing notes. Open Telegram when that confirmation is in writing, not when N'Djamena just feels like a starting line.
