Dominica will get your boots wet before it gives you a beach day, and that is the point. If you are going with someone, name Boiling Lake or a Waitukubuli segment early, not a vague Caribbean week. Roseau is the small capital on the leeward coast. English works. Antillean Creole shows up in vans and kitchens. You pay in Eastern Caribbean dollars. The plates that actually appear are callaloo soup, bakes and saltfish, titiri accra, pelau, and a measured pour of bush rum if that is your table.

Minibuses are cheap until they stop, which they do early. After that the steep roads want a 4x4, and a 4x4 wants two people who already agreed on the same trailhead. There is no long city list. Roseau is enough if that is where you land. The Boiling Lake trailhead is the useful pin if the steam basin is why you came. A Waitukubuli segment name helps if you are walking more than one famous day. That is how to find travel friends on an island that sells waterfalls and forest, not a white-sand clone.

It is uphill. After the last van you are in a 4x4 or you are stuck. Sharing the car is how you reach trailheads without building a day around the timetable. One leftover person waiting in Roseau at dusk is how tomorrow's hike quietly dies. This is not a typical pale-sand listing. The island sells waterfalls, hot springs, and forest. If the week only wants a sunbed, this is the wrong island to match on. December to April is the drier Caribbean stretch, the window most people actually walk. February through May can still be walkable. Prefer December to April. A week is Roseau plus Boiling Lake plus one or two other trail days. The full Waitukubuli National Trail is a longer, segmented walk. Trying to do the entire spine, a dive day, and a rest week in the same seven nights is how the week breaks.

Boiling Lake is a long day with steam, mud, and a turnaround you should agree in advance. If you already know you walk at the same pace, you eat the same breakfast and start at the same hour. Someone you just met at the guesthouse may want a swimming hole and a short loop.

December to April is the honest window. December and January still belong if both calendars are free and you accept passing showers.
