Bujumbura sits on the northeastern shore of the lake and still works as the economic capital: colonial-era streets, markets, and the water. Gitega, inland and higher, is the political capital, cooler highland air, and royal-history weight. Gitega is not automatically more authentic. It is a different night for a different reason.
